What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment in which a patient breathes 100% oxygen while the pressure of a treatment chamber is increased.

  • Provides a decrease in inflammation

  • Mobilizes and migrates stem cells to areas of injury

  • Maximizes the efficiency of wound healing at every stage

  • Optimizes and potentially re-vitalizes cells not functioning at maximal capacity

  • Patients should be medically cleared and obtain a prescription to receive hyperbaric oxygen therapy

How Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Works

In each session, the patient enters an oxygen chamber, where the air pressure increases slowly. Patients can often listen to music or watch TV and feel no differently than if they were in a normal pressure environment. The idea is to increase the amount of oxygen in the body’s tissues and red blood cells. The process can change the way the body heals.

  • What are the ICHT Accreditation Standards?
You can either read online, or print the ICHT Accreditation Standards
  • Can an existing CHT also attain ICHT Accreditation?
Yes. CHTs who are currently certified and in good standing may apply to become a Tier 2 ICHT without additional training requirements until September 1st, 2019. Please contact HMI at 484-639-9006, or info@hyperbaricmedicineinternational.org ICHT certification is not a replacement for CHT accreditation, but an additional credential that a Technologist may wish to receive.
  • Is ICHT training restricted to certain chamber types?
No. Training will be provided for all chambers that are FDA approved in the United States. For international applications, training will be provided for those chambers approved within the standards of the particular country where it will be operated.
  • Will the certificatons standards apply internationally?
The tiered system is for certification as an ICHT within the United States. Other affiliated countries, such as Australia, Canada, Mexico or the United Kingdom may require additional training requirements. International standards can differ. Some countries may be more restrictive, while some countries may be less restrictive with the application of pressures and use of enriched O2 than the United States.
